Lamma Show 2019: All the latest tractor developments

Making its UK debut, ArmaTrac used the event to launch a brand new flagship tractor model. Sitting above the current 113hp 1104 Lux model, the new 1254 Lux CRD4 takes the range up to 125hp.

Using tried and test components, power comes from a Stage 4-compliant, four-cylinder, Deutz engine, which is married to a 16 by 16 ZF gearbox.

On top of this is an all new cab design which features a more ergonomic approach to the layout of the right hand console, putting primary controls closer to hand, says the manufacturer.

Other features include power shuttle, cab suspension, font linkage and front pto.

Keeping simplicity in mind, the Turkish firm says the tractors are ideal for livestock enterprises and small to medium holdings.

1254s are about to go into production with retail prices to be confirmed.

Adding to its Crystal range of six-cylinder tractors, Zetor introduced a new top model, the 170 HD.

The new tractor complements the current 150 model, and replaces the 160. In addition, spec levels across the range have been increased.

As with the 150, the 170 employs a 6.1-litre, six-cylinder Deutz engine, providing a maximum power level of 171hp. This is mated to Zetor’s own 30 by 30 gearbox, able to achieve 40kph at 1,750rpm.

At the rear, two auxiliary lift cylinders offer an 8.5 tonne lift capacity. It also gets four double-acting spools as standard, along with a 19mm (three quarter inch) return coupling.

HD-spec sees the cab interior change from a predominantly mechanical affair to an increased level of electronic control, all laid out in a new right hand console, similar to that used on the four-cylinder Forterra HD models.

A new LCD colour dash is also a feature, which shows a greater variety of information, says the manufacturer.

Available to order now, retail price is from about £105,000.

Highlighting the versatility of its Fastrac tractor series, JCB displayed a ‘utility-spec’ version of the Fastrac 4220.

Designed to show farmers and contractors what the Fastrac is capable of outside of agriculture, optional mounting points allow the operation of rear-mounted, front-mounted and deck-mounted equipment.

Individually or in combination, applications include snow clearance, salt spreading and roadside vegetation control, for example.

This is achieved via the fitment of a mounting frame for highways snow ploughs, snow blowers and powered sweepers; a stability control system to keep the tractor level when operating heavy long-reach vegetation mowers; and a purpose-built rear deck frame for quick mounting and demounting of specialist spraying equipment and salt spreaders.

John Smith, managing director of JCB Agriculture, says; “A number of contractors, utility companies and airports in the UK and overseas already operate our tractors but we see the Fastrac’s ‘utility’ options providing opportunities for farmers and contractors to diversify into municipal, highways and commercial markets for winter and summer maintenance.”

Adding to its line-up of tractors, Deutz-Fahr introduced the new 5D Keyline Series.

Sitting just below the higher spec 5G Series, the new 5D Keyline is an entry level machine, said to be ideal for stock farms.

Comprising four models from 65-100hp, this 5080D uses Deutz-Fahr’s own FahrMotion, three-cylinder engine. Transmission options extend to either a basic synchromesh, 15 by 15-speed ‘box, or a ‘splitter’ can be specified taking the number of ratios forward up to 30.

Maximising visibility, the 5D is adorned with an all new cab, featuring large rear curved windows and a roof window.

It is expected a large proportion will be sold with a loader, with the series having a retail base price of £42,891.

Headline updates to McCormick’s three-model range of four-cylinder X7.4 models (maximum power rating from 141 to 176hp) pertain primarily to the development of a new powershift transmission.

Already used in the six-cylinder X7.6s, the new ZF gearbox serves up more ratios per range, but with fewer range changes to deal with.

In all, the new five range, six powershift ‘box offers up a total of 30 forward speeds (15 reverse), six more than its predecessor. With creep option, this rises to a 54 by 27 speed transmission.

An automatic shifting mode can be used in field and road modes, with the latter providing hands-free shifting through all five ranges, resulting in easier and more productive operation in the field, as well as more comfortable road travel, says the manufacturer.

Made up of three models from 99 to 113hp is Landini’s new 5 Series tractor range.

Billed as the ideal ‘stockmans’ tractor, it is available with a choice of synchro or powershuttle transmissions, pto options including 540/1000rpm and 540/540E, and mechanical or electronic operation of the 4,750kg rear linkage.

Featuring a 2,355mm wheelbase and weighing in at 3,800kg, standard specification includes suspended driver’s seat, air conditioning and a push back pick-up hitch.

Power comes courtesy of 3.6-litre, four-cylinder, Deutz engines.

As standard, the transmission features 12 forward and 12 reverse gears. A two-speed powershift can be added giving 24 by 24 gears, as can a creeper option which takes the gear tally to 32 by 32.

Though famous for its larger tractors in the UK, one of Fendt’s most popular family of tractors is actually its smaller 300 Vario Series.

And with Lamma moving more towards the west of the country, it is a tractor series the firm is keen to champion.

Made up of four, four-cylinder models, spanning 100 to 138hp, recent updates to the 300 Vario include the ability to be specified with a fully integrated automatic steering system.

Offered on the top-spec ProfiPlus specification level, automatic steering receiver choice includes NovAtel or Trimble.

Both can be specified with various levels of guidance accuracy from Fendt’s entry level VarioGuide Standard (+/-20cm) to its VarioGuide RTK (+/- 2cm).

As with its larger tractors, particularly the 500 and 700 Series models, the 300s get the same family styling and up and over curved windscreen.

Peterborough-based Lite-Trac has revealed the latest incarnation of its universal tool carrier, the LT350.

Powered by a 320hp Volvo diesel engine, the LT350 packs an additional 80hp over its predecessor, along with a 12 by two Allison automatic transmission – the latter said to avoid the need for a dropbox and gains the machine some much-needed additional ground clearance.

Cat IV front and rear linkage, PTO packs and hydraulically adjustable track width are features of the machine, as is a 65kph travel speed. Expect the LT350 to cost £210,000 as a rolling chassis.

Indian tractor manufacturer Solis used the show to launch the addition of a cab to its ‘50’ tractor.

Featuring its own Indian Tractor Limited (ITL) engine, the 2.9-litre, three-cylinder unit develops 50hp. Available in two or four wheel drive, the tractor features a 12 by 12 gearbox.

Rear lift capacity is 2,000kg with the option of 2,500kg. A loader was fitted to the four wheel drive tractor at the show, which had a price of £19,000 plus VAT. A two wheel drive tractor with a cab costs £12,000 plus VAT.

One of the more unusual looking tractors on show was the American-made Ventrac 4500Y, designed for working on slopes up to 30 degrees in any direction when fitted with dual wheels.

Shown by importers Fentons of Bourne, the hydrostatic unit is powered by a 26hp Kubota engine and weighs in at less than a tonne.

Ventrac supplies over thirty attachments to fit to the front of the tractor, driven through a belt. The unit is all wheel drive and can be fitted with a 300kg capacity three point linkage at the rear. The company says it is ideal for difficult terrain, golf courses and municipal applications.

Average price for the tractor and an attachment is £35,000 plus VAT according to the importer.
