Lincoln Red bulls sell to 8,000gns at Melton Mowbray

 

THE multibreed pedigree sale at Melton Mowbray included the Lincoln Red Cattle Society’s premier spring show and sale which provided the day’s top price of 8,000gns.

The sale leader was Holegate Yogi by Auchmacoy Unwin from Ed Middleton, Spilsby, which went to Michael Read, Horncastle.

Next at 7,500gns from the same home was Holegate Yeti which was knocked down to Jonathan and Elaine Bradley, West Yorkshire.

 

H.M. and J.M. Needler, Ranby, sold Walmer Yukon for 4,500gns to Messrs Innes, Surrey.

 

A. Mylius and Partners, St. Fort, Fife, sold the junior and reserve champion bull, St Fort Yodel for 3,500gns to John Carrick, Norfolk, and the junior reserve bull, St. Fort Yamaha for 3,200gns to Tom Dobell, Essex.

Top priced female at 2,100gns was the maiden heifer, Springwood Hazel Y157 from Julie Evans, Oakham, which went to Jamie Quinn and Sue Oliver, North Lincolnshire. Reserve champion female Brackenhurst Molly Y534, from Nottingham Trent University, Southwell, sold for 1,900gns to Will and Ellie Jackson, Leicestershire.

 

Salers peaked at 3,600gns for Rigel Old Spice, a son of Byron from Rigel Pedigree, Yarm, which went to D. Barton, Gloucester. The reserve champion, Rigel O’Toole by Lascaux, from the same home sold for 3,200gns to W. Bothwell, Rutland.

 

Angus Gowthorpe, York, took the Salers championship with Approach Farm Oak, by Seawell Lithium which sold for 3,000gns to A. F. and R. Stannage, Tilton on the Hill.

Leading the females was Manor Lane Orchid from Carolyn Fox, Dry Doddington, which joined Brian Jones, Diss, for 2,700gns.

 

British Blue Bulls topped at 5,000gns for Louise Todd, East Torrington, with Torrington Oliver, selling to L.W. Simons and Son, Melton Mowbray. Torrington Otis from the same vendor realised 4,000gns to J. Casey, Buckinghamshire.

 

Limousin bulls from M.D Copley, Grantham, topped at 3,900gns for Croxtonheath Punch, a son of Ampertaine Gigolo.

 

Simmentals from Paul Cade, Buckden, sold to 3,000gns for Cade Kolossal, a polled bull by Dirnanean Abba bought by Messrs Simons.

 

Yearling Simmental females sold to 1,700gns for Fishpool Lexi from T.J. Hassall and Co, Cheshire.

 

Aberdeen-Angus bulls topped at 3,600gns for Wensleydale Rodeo by Blelack Ensign from C.D. Timm, Pickering, who also sold his Charolais bull, Wensleydale Pioneer at 3,000gns.

 

Beef Shorthorns topped at 3,700gns for Marrgrange Nelson, by Millerston Jester from P.S. and S.E. Hardcastle, Brough, which sold to Bowes Farms, Norfolk.

 

Females also topped at 3,700gns for Podehole Gypsy Nell, a heifer in-calf to Podehole Northern Light from C. Horrell, Peterborough, which sold to D. Cadzow and Co, East Lothian.
