Lionheart wins at Brecon

Quality stock and perfect weather brought out the crowds for Saturday’s (August 6) Brecon County Show.

Limousins from Paul Dawes’ Herefordshire-based Dinmore herd have won countless awards over the years, at shows on both sides of the Welsh border, but have never before competed at Brecon.

What tempted herd manager Richard Bartle this time around was the South Wales and Mid-West Limousin Club’s ‘Stars of the Future’ competition, which saw the championship going to home-bred Dinmore Lionheart.

But the successes did not end there. Within minutes of taking the title and under a different judge, the Requin son came out top of Brecon’s six-breed cattle supreme championship line-up.

Taking reserve inter-breed was the best of the commercials, a black Limousin heifer, Maybe This Time, from Annie Lewis and Colin Harris, Brecon.

In the sheep lines, Charollais entries led the way in a 540-strong entry.

At last year’s show, Dai Curran and his son Paul had to be content with the reserve supreme rosette, but this time they went all the way, adding the inter-breed group of three championship to their collection.

Winner was a home-bred yearling ewe by Wrenbury 4 Ewe from their Wernfawr flock at Talgarth, near Brecon.

Reserve was a home-bred Welsh Badger Face Torddu ewe from brothers Christie and Ryan Joseph and their sister Alex, Llyswen, near Brecon.

They were also runners-up to the Currans for the group rosette, but with three Brecknock Hill Cheviots.
