Revealed at the recent French Innovagri Show, Massey Ferguson pulled the wraps of a new flagship telehandler model.

Developed in collaboration with Bobcat, the new TH.8043 sits at the top of MF’s now six-model line-up which ranges from the MF TH.6030 with a lift capacity of 3,000kg and lift height of 6m, to the new top model with a lift capacity of 4,300kg and a lift height of 7.5m. Capacity at maximum boom extension has also been boosted to 1,600kg.

Though it has 13 per cent more capacity compared to the MF TH.7038, it still retains the same relative compact dimensions, says the manufacturer. Overall length remains under 5m and the total width does not exceed 2.36m on 460/70 R24 tyres.

To provide greater lift height, the boom is now 50cm longer. A new headstock design with Z-shape linkage also provides a greater range of working angles with an increase of 13 degrees on the dumping angle (49 degrees in total) and an increase of 17 degrees on the total headstock range of movement (159 degrees).

Hydraulics comprise of a load sensing system delivering a total flow of 190l/min. Making the most of this, the main lift cylinder has been increased to 160mm in diameter, along with improved hydraulic pipe routing designed to reduce cycle times.

Standard features include the manufacturer’s Boom Control System, allowing adjustment of oil flow to boom functions in order to alter boom aggression, and Cushion Retract which reduces boom flow when the boom reaches the last few centimetres of its retraction, or at maximum crow and dump of the headstock. Automatic boom suspension adds to the comfort. In addition, front auxiliary valves feature quick couplers, and fourth and fifth services can be specified.

Power comes from a 3.4-litre, four-cylinder, 130hp engine. For dusty environments a reversing radiator fan is standard, which can be set to operate automatically, depending on air temperature or can be adjusted to work at pre-set time intervals.

Power is transmitted to the wheels via a two mechanical range/two hydrostatic range transmission. The machine’s Speed Control System enables operators to set the forward speed independently of the engine rpm, and an auto-shifting function takes care of downshifting hydrostatic ranges when effort increases. An automatic parking brake will also kick in when either the machine is stationary at low engine revs, put into neutral, or when switched off.

In order to offer greater pulling capacity, transmission components have been beefed up, offering an extra 700kg, now 7,400kg.

Extra stability is realised via the use of a new 1,280kg rear counterweight, 425kg more than the previous top model, without detriment to the turning circle, claims the manufacturer. Underneath, protection is afforded by the use of a metal plate.
