Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue teams were called to the barns in Bromham, Wiltshire, at 8:55pm.

Despite efforts to rescue them, 63 sows and some 700 piglets were killed in the blaze.

Eight fire engines were sent to tackle the blaze, with relief crews attending through the night.

The incident was scaled down to three fire engines soon after midnight, and the fire was eventually extinguished by 5am Wednesday morning (July 27).
