A new breed record of 18,000gns was set at the Blue Texel Sheep Society sale at Carlisle for the pre-sale show male and reserve supreme champion, Joe’s Alvin, a ram lamb from Joe Thornley, Swadlingcote, Derbyshire. By a Sam’s ram out of a Beili Blues-bred ewe, it sold to Paul Tippetts and Christine Williams, Shifnal, Shropshire.
Next at 4,000gns was another ram lamb, Jonsland Areo, a Whatmore Siren son out of Jonsland Willow. Consigned by Dan and Janine Jones, Newtown, Powys, it was knocked down to Sara and Steve Gibbons, Brecon.
Another by the same sire, Hackney Yuppie, from Tippetts and Williams, headed the shearling ram prices at 1,900gns selling to Glen and Heather Forsyth, Castle Douglas.
Females sold to 3,800gns for the female and supreme champion, a ewe lamb from Rhys Cooke’s Nantryderri flock, Abergavenny, by Whatmore Walnut out of an Ivanhoe ewe, which had won at the Royal Welsh Show. It sold to D.B. Roberts, Shrewsbury, who also paid 1,400gns for the second prize ewe lamb and reserve female champion, Whatmore Annex by Whatmore Wasp from Mrs Gibbons.
Leading the shearling gimmer prices at 1,600gns was the second prize winner from D.L. and B.W.H. Jones’ Beili Blues flock, Pencader, Carmarthenshire. By Jonsland Wifi, it sold to Joe Thornley.
