New market record set at Ruthin show potentials

A new market record of £7,900 was set at the Farmers Guardian-sponsored show and sale of show potential cattle at Ruthin which was held in the market’s new exhibition hall for the first time.

Leading the trade was the pre-sale show champion, a five-month-old Limousin-cross heifer from D.H. Morgan, Llanddeusant, Carmarthenshire.


The buyer was Elfed Williams, Sennybridge, who also paid £6,000 for the reserve champion, a nine-month-old Limousin-cross steer from D.J. Lloyd and Co Trefeglwys, Caersws.

 

Reserve


The reserve champion heifer, also a Limousin-cross from the Lloyds, was knocked down to the judge, Sharon Sellers from Lincolnshire, for £6,400.


The reserve champion steer was a seven-month-old British Blue-cross from J.M. and A.M. Lewis, Cwrt y Cadno, Llanwrda, which sold to Marwood and Wilkinson, Leyburn, North Yorkshire, for £4,300.


An eight-month-old Limousin-cross heifer from D.H., H. and I.D. Owen, Holyhead, sold for £4,100 to R. Whitfield, St Helen, Merseyside.

Averages: Heifers, £2,367; steers, £1,698; overall, £2,047.
