Plans for a major new auction mart in Middlewich, Cheshire, will return to the drawing board following an unsuccessful funding application.
The proposals for the auction site and rural business hub were drawn up when Frank Marshall and Wright Manley announced their merger in June 2013.
But following an unsuccessful application for regional growth funding by developer Pochins, Wright Marshall said it would have to review its finances and return to the drawing board on plans for a new site.
Gwyn Williams, director of auction sales at Wright Marshall, said: “We are tenants at both Chelford and Beeston so we do not have the sale of either place to put into the new mart. We have always said we will do everything we can with the funds available.”
Wright Marshall hoped to move into the new site by the end of 2015.
However, Mr Williams said he could not provide a firm date for when the proposed new auction mart would be up and running, although the Chelford site would remain in operation for the rest of 2015 at least.
