Bluefaced Leicesters also sold to 7,800gns, Welsh Mountains peaked at 5,200gns and Blue Texels topped at 2,200gns.

More than a score of other four-figure prices set the seal on a £2,211,885.55 overall turnover for the 4,148 entries sold -- some £63,982 up on last year when 4,383 found buyers.

Overall clearance was 85 per cent and most of the 21 sale rings showed increases on 12 months ago, leading to an overall average of £533.24 compared with £490.05 last year and £510.45 in 2014.

The 18,000gns lead bid was for a shearling from the 35-ewe Pant flock Llion Jones runs at Llanegryn, Gwynedd, and the buyer was Charlie Boden,Stockport.
