The show and sale of in-lamb females and gimmer hoggs at J36 included the Rough Diamond sale on behalf of the Rough Fell Sheep Breeders Association where a new record of 1,450gns was set for the reserve champion.
This was an in-lamb shearling by 10,000gns High Cark Yankie from T.L.B. and J. Knowles, Selside, which sold to J. Potter, Tebay.
The championship rosette went to V.R. Guy, Tebay, with a gimmer shearling by RF2871 which sold for 1,000gns to the judge, Wendy Dickinson, Tebay.
M.P. and A. Capstick, Kirkby Stephen, consigned the first prize ewe which sold for 500gns. By Galloper Park Zoro and carrying twins to Catholes Action, it was knocked down to R.L. Morris and Partners, Perthshire. They also paid 250gns for the first prize gimmer hogg from J.E. Harding, Winllan, Wales.
A new centre record of 2,000gns was set for a Swaledale when the champion, a gimmer shearling by a Ghyll House ram, in-lamb to £16,000 Westend Elvis from P.E. and K.A. Sowerby, Kirkby Stephen, sold to the judge, J. Natrass, Alston.
The reserve championship went to A. and M. Skidmore, Tebay, with a gimmer shearling by Flakebridge Justice and in-lamb to High Birkwith Kisdon 1 which sold for 1,200gns.
Ewes sold to 1,100gns for an Arnfield ME23 daughter in-lamb to Hellbeck Icon from P. Hallam, Horton-in-Ribblesdale, who also had the top priced ewe lamb by the same sire which sold for 600gns.
A record entry of Bluefaced Leicesters also saw a new record price of 4,000gns. This was for a pair of embryos by M001 Highberries in a recipient ewe from Neil Martson’s Highberries flock, Cockermouth. It was bought by Ron and Fran Wilson, Armathwaite.
The championship went to W.A. and A. Booth’s, Smearsett flock, Austwick with a gimmer shearling by H003 Riddings carrying a single. It sold for 2,000gns to the Walker family, Dunsop Bridge.
The reserve Champion was a gimmer hogg by L003 Steel from J. Wight and Son, Biggar. It sold for 2,000gns to W.M. Hutchinson and Sons, Kirkby Stephen.
At the same money was a gimmer shearling Midlock L031 carrying twins to Smearsett L011 from R. Lawrence, Grange-over-Sands, which sold to A. Troughton, Sedbergh.
The new section for Cheviot females topped at 400gns for a North Country Cheviot shearling by Allanshaws Nutter carrying a single from K.O. Stones, Richmond, who also sold a shearling by South Lund Vanish carrying twins at 380gns. Both sold to G.G. and M.A. Long, Ulverston.
