Dalesbred rams smash breed records at Bentham

BENTHAM market witnessed two new breed records when Dalesbred rams sold at its annual show and sale. A shearling ram sold to £10,000 and a ram lamb hit £2,200, with a strong trade reported throughout.

Flying to the top of the price list was a ram from M. Taylor and Son, Tosside, which is by 11/2103, a ram bred by John Harrison, Blubberhouses.

 

Out of a ewe with Penyghent breeding, it sold in a two-way split between Frank Brennand, Ellerbeck, and John Dawson, Lancaster.

 

M.J. and A. Carr, Horton In Ribblesdale, sold shearlings to £7,000 and £5,200. Both sire by 207/1465, a ram bred by Frank Brennand, Ellerbeck, they respectively sold to Messrs Tiplady, Leyburn and Messrs Greenwood, Halifax.

Record breaking ram lamb from Richard Coates which went for £2,200

The record price for a Dalesbred ram lamb was broken twice with lambs from Richard Coates, Carnforth, both trading for more than the current £800 record.

 

Both by 114/316, a sire bred by Messrs Taylor, the pre-sale show winning lamb sold to Mr Brennand for £850, while at £2,200 was another lamb which sold to J. M. Brown, Lofthouse.
