Not everybody lives on the doorstep of the great British countryside.

 

But with the number of city farms popping up across the country, children and families can get an insight in to what happens on a real, working farm, and get up close and personal with farm animals.

Vauxhall City Farm

Vauxhall City farm is one of the oldest and most central London city farms. With its close proximity to some of the world's most infamous sights such as Big Ben, the farm offers a warm welcome in to the world of farming for those surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the country's capitol.

 

Lamont Farm Project

Founded in 1977 and formerly known as Lamont City Farm, the Lamont Farm Project offers a range of animal related activities for their community and is said to be one of the first city farms to open in Scotland. Based in Erskine, Renfrewshire, the farm also offers educational visits to schools and disabled groups too.

 

Stonebridge City Farm

Boasting a playground, cafe and shop, Stonebridge City Farm was started over 40 years ago by local Nottingham residents. It is also a registered charity, supporting those with learning disabilities and people suffering with mental health issues.

 

Lancaster park and animal farm

Based in Chadderton, near Oldham, this farm park is a family run children's petting farm where you can meet and feed the animals and welcome the new arrivals throughout the year.

 

Windmill Hill City Farm

Formed by a group of volunteers in 1976, this inner-city wasteland was turned in to a community project so people could experience farming in the middle of a urban area. It offers everything from an adventure park to craft-based courses.
