A’Dora Derriere tops LiveScot for exhibitor hat-trick

It was a hat-trick for Crieff based exhibitor Wilson Peters in the cattle rings at LiveScot, Lanark, after he clinched the top spot for the third year running.

A’Dora Derriere took the supreme title, a May-2017 born heifer out of a Limousin cross cow and by the Limousin bull Powerhouse Harlequin.

 

Mr Wilson bought the animal out of Aberdeen and Northern marts Spring Show and it has since won the lightweight commercial heifer title at the Royal Highland, as well as overall championships at Doune and Dunblane, Kirriemuir, and Braco shows this summer.

 

It was shown at LiveScot weighing 590kg, and was tapped out as supreme by judge Jason Wareham, Heathfield, East Sussex, after claiming the heavyweight heifer championship.

It later sold for £3,300 to Kitsons Butchers, Yorkshire.

 

Claiming reserve supreme was Prince Harry, from Craig and Katreen Malone, Lochgelly. By a Limousin bull and out of a Limousin cross cow, this August-2017 born animal was purchased by Mr Malone from Shona Laird out of Caledonian Marts (Stirling).

 

Shown weighing 586kg, Prince Harry claimed the heavyweight steer championship on the day and was also winner in its class at Agri Expo. It was later purchased for £2,200 by Howieson of Newmains, Wishaw.

 

Reserve heifer champion went to the Limousin cross the 652kg Too Glam To Give A Dam from Newton Stewart based exhibitors Alister and Liz Vance and was bought by the pair from Brecon show potentials.

 

Standing reserve in the steer section was the home-bred Limousin cross, Coolio, from Hugh Dunlop, Ochiltree. By Milbrook D’Artagnan, the October-2017 born animal was shown weighing 480kg.

 

It was another win for the Malone’s in the commercial calf show, with the top-spot going to the pairs Limousin cross heifer, She’s A Belter.

 

March-2018 born and weighing in at 372kg, the Connon daughter was bred by D.B. Erskine, Carluke, and stood above judge Sarah Wareham’s, Heathfield, East Sussex, reserve choice, Apples Shakira.

 

This Limousin cross heifer from Alastair Jackson, Annan, is by Elrick Jackal is out of a British Blue cross cow. Bred by Gary Bell, Haas Loaning, Lockerbie, it was shown weighing 412kg.

Overall honours in the sheep championship went to R. Hall and Son, Dalston, who took the title with a pair of Beltex ewe lambs. Weighing a combined 78kg, the home-bred pair are by an Orkney tup and later sold for £230/head.

 

In reserve were the hill champions, a pair of Blackface wedders from Tommy and Craig MacPherson, Bankfoot, Perth. Weighing 39kg each, they were bought out of Dalmally mart as part of a pen consigned by Ian and Bobby McLarty, St. Fillans. They later sold for £150/head.

 

A pair of Texels from R. and M. Struthers, Carluke, Lanarkshire, stood reserve in the butchers championship, with the Chaviot champions from T.N. Cavers, Sorbie, Langholm taking reserve in the hill section.

 

Supreme in the dairy section went to the Holstein, Miriesdale Saloon Atlee, from Hugh Neilson, Brackenridge. The third calver by Sandyvalley Saloon was bought from the Black and White sale at Carlisle as a calf and was shown giving 58kg daily.

 

Standing reserve was Emerald Doorman Twizzle, a second calver from A. and E. Lawrie, Grangehall. Another from the Carlisle Black and White sale, it was giving 48kg daily.
