Females led the way for Beef Shorthorns peaking at 7,000gns for the pre-sale show champion, Millerston Augusta Mint, an April 2018-born in-calf heifer from Jack Ramsay, Mauchline.
The sale leader by Meonhill Charlie Chaplin out of Millerston Augusta Heidi, it sold to A. and C. Farms, Rutland.
The draft from L. Townsend, Moffat peaked at 5,500gns for Coxhill Menna M395, an 18-month-old heifer by Ballylinney Glenn out of Largyvale Rotary Menna. It sold, in-calf to Barnaigh Highwayman, to Gates Farming, Oakham.
The same vendor also sold Coxhill Princess M297, a heifer of the same age, also in-calf to Glenn for 5,000gns to Thomas Staunton, North Kinvara, Eire.
The reserve female champion also sold for 5,000gns. This was Cherryvalley Denise Olea, an April 2018-born daughter of Creaga Logic consigned by Peter Fitzgerald, Crumlin, Co Antrim which was knocked down to Leanne Green, Lisburn, Northern Ireland.
Gates Farming then paid 4,500gns for Podehole Tessa Moneypenny, an 18-month-old heifer by Knockenjig Hercules from Harry Horrell, Peterborough.
Average – 54 females, £2,440 (48 females, £2,436 in 2018).
Steady trade for bulls
Trade for Beef Shorthorn bulls was steady with the average of £3,439 down by £1,048 on the year. The sale leader at 5,000gns was the pre-sale show champion, Cherryvale Oak, a January 2018-born son of Creaga Logic out of Cherryvalley Bluebell from Peter Fitzgerald, Crumlin, Co Antrim. The buyer was H.A. Smith and Sons, Morayshire.
Next at 4,000gns was March 2018-born Podehole Rock Master, the first son of Royalla Rockstar offered for sale by Harry Horrell, Peterborough. It was knocked down to G.L. Riby, Fraisthorpe, East Yorkshire.
Two bulls sold for 3,600gns. The first was Langalbuinoch Legacy, an August 2017-born bull by Newfield Tarquin from R. and P. McAlister, Isle of Bute. It went home with D.C. and J.J. Marshall, Biggar.
At the same money was the reserve male champion, Elliot Houdini, a February 2018-born son of Sull Cyclone from John Elliot, Kelso. It sold to Messrs Barr, Thirlestane.
Making 3,000gns again from Mr Horrell, was Podehole Lord, a December 2017-born bull by Knockenjig Hercules which sold to A. and K. Duncan, Bankfoot.
Clark Farms, Crossford, paid the same money for May 2018-born Castlemount Masterpiece, the first son of Elliot The Gamble to be offered for sale consigned by D. McDowall, Newtownards, Co Down.
Average – 12 bulls, £3,439 (15 bulls, £5,121 in 2018).
