Blackpool Police commend behaviour of ‘polite’ young farmers at their ‘DIY AGM’

Police in Blackpool have commended the behaviour of young farmers who descended on the town this bank holiday weekend for an unofficial ‘DIY AGM’.

Inspector Dave Wilson from Blackpool Police said the vast majority of farmers spoken to over the weekend were polite and ‘keen to dispel the reputation from last year’.

The team said it and partners at Blackpool Unitary Authority provided a ‘proportionate response’ to the event based on its engagement and visibility in the town centre, as well as hotels used by young farmers.

Inspector Wilson said: “There were no arrests made as part of this policing operation.

“In general I would commend the behaviour of those who attended Blackpool in 2019.”

It came as attendees smashed a £7,000 fundraising target for charity.

The three-day event, organised by 20-year-old Yorkshire farmer John Houseman, hosted about 3,500 youngsters at its peak on the Saturday (May 4), with online donations going towards The Air Ambulance Service and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
