Help to spread the Buy British message with #BritishFoodFortnight

It would seem obvious perhaps that we, the British people, would simply buy British produce, but it isn’t always the case.

Never has it been more widely discussed about how farmers can connect with their consumers, and in the current food climate where diet trends change daily, it is more important than ever to champion what our farmers do and the hard work that goes in to producing quality foods which are essential for a healthy, balanced diet.

Love British Food

British Food Fortnight, which launched in 2002 by Love British Food, has captured the essence of what our produce and the farmers behind it are all about.

Created in response to the Foot and Mouth crisis, it is a fantastic campaign that provides everybody within the food and drink industry - plus those with a general interest - to come together and promote the benefits of buying British.

The campaign also has top TV personalities, chefs and farming advocates attached to it.

This year, famous chef Raymond Blanc and son Olivier, highly acclaimed Liz Earle, NFU Deputy President Minnette Batters and former NFYFC Chairman Milly Fyfe are flying the food flag for 2017.

Benefits

The fortnight provides businesses and producers with great opportunities to promote themselves to various markets.

Providing an online "help guide" on how to make the most of British Food Fortnight, Love British Food offer ’Hot Tips’ for retailers, pubs and restaurants, the public and caterers.

They also highlight previous success stories.

It states, for example:

Use British Food Fortnight as a catalyst for building long-term opportunities:

Start small but think big! A greengrocer in West Yorkshire delivered fruit and veg to schools and gave pupils talks during British Food Fortnight. He has since won a three year contract to supply fruit and veg to 30 schools in the area.

Get involved

In an era where anything can go viral, the power of social media campaigns such as this is undenaible.

The fortnight hosts a competition alongside for anybody to get stuck in saying, "The search is on for the most imaginative and innovative celebration of British food during British Food Fortnight, which takes place from 23rd September to 8th October 2017.

"The judges, led by Raymond Blanc, Liz Earle, Our Love British Food Sponsor Co-op Food and The Telegraph are looking for an event that brings colour to the lives of those taking part and a love of the diverse and delicious food produced in this country."

Encouraging the general public is imperative to spreading the Buy British message, and helping them to connect more their food couldn’t be more timely or important.
