Charolais bulls met a solid commercial trade and also achieved the week’s highest price of 23,000gns. They averaged £5,735 down £1,244 on the year with a 74 per cent clearance rate.
The sale leader at 23,000gns was for Goldies Oasis, a first prize winner in the pre-sale show from Hamish Goldie, Ruthwell. June 2018-born and by Gretnahouse Heman out of Goldies Icequeen, it was knocked down to Neil Barclay, Harestone.
Two bulls sold for 12,000gns. The first was the junior and overall champion, Balthayock Octavian from D.F.W.H. and N.R. Walter, whose herd is celebrating 50 years in the breed this year.
The May 2018-born son of Balthayock Ferdinand out of Balthayock Emily went home with J. Wight and Son, Biggar.
Also making 12,000gns was the reserve junior and reserve overall champion, Coolnaslee Oreo, from the Crawford family, Maghera, Co Londonderry. The 17-month-old bull by Mortimers Hurricane is out of Balbithan Gilly, which was bought at the Balbithan dispersal, sold to J. Irvine and Son, Tomintoul.
Selling for 9,000gns was Cardean Otto, an April 2018-born bull by Maerdy Otto out of Cardean Honeysuckle from Adrian Ivory, Meigle. The buyer of this one was E. Scott, Glamis.
Making the same money was Tophill Olly, a bull by Sandelford Harrison out of Edenhurst Georgette, which was breed champion at Cumberland Show and a first prize winner at the Royal Highland Show. Consigned by A.J. Stott, Canonbie, it sold to Ross Farms, Gorebridge.
Midshield Oslo, an April 2018-born son of Elrick Highlander from J. and E. Wight, Biggar, was knocked down for 8,000gns to Williams Partners, Bridgend.
Also selling for 8,000gns was Wissington Olaf, a January 2018-born bull by Edenhurst Leader from John and Jenny Rix, Colchester. Having been male champion and the Royal Highland and Great Yorkshire Shows and junior inter-breed champion at the Royal Welsh Show, it sold to John Sutherland, Thurso.

Lesliepark dispersal tops at 4,000gns
The Lesliepark dispersal on behalf of George Russell, Denny topped at 4,000gns for Ballatie Iwasstuck, a six-year-old cow by Balthayock Empire, which sold with its heifer calf by Thrunton Lachlan to A. and B. Forest, Lanark.
Selling for 3,500gns was Lesliepark Jasmine, a five-year-old daughter of Blelack Digger. It sold with its heifer calf by Lachlan to G. Allardyce, Tarland, Aberdeenshire.
