Datahub markets update: Sheep prices see some recovery at marts this week

Prices in the sheep rings saw some recovery at UK auction marts this week, following drops last week.

Old season lambs reached 191.79p/kg, a rise of 2.69p/kg with cull ewe prices up £0.79/head at £56.65/head.

 

In the beef rings, steer prices rose but there were drops elsewhere.

 

Steer prices were up 2.15p/kg at 183.76p/kg. Heifers were down slightly at 196p/kg, a fall of 0.06p/kg with young bulls down 3.79p/kg at 170.72p/kg.

Cull cow prices were up 1.06p/kg at 105.36p/kg.

 

Pig prices were up 11.13p/kg at 102.36p/kg.

 

The latest milk production figures showed December UK milk deliveries were up 1.7 per cent year on year to 1,239 million litres. Cumulatively, this was 0.3 per cent up on the same period a year before.

 

GB milk deliveries were up 1.6 per cent year on year at 1,048m litres, remaining flat on the year cumulatively.

 

Barber’s announced an April price hold.

 

UK wheat supply and demand situations were very uncertain mainly due to the lack of clarity around the original area of wheat planted and harvested in autumn.

 

But the opening of the Ensus plant in Teeside could have an impact on markets going forward.
