The Devon Cattle Breeders’ Society spring show and sale at Sedgemoor peaked at 4,000gns for the pre-sale show reserve champion and society 2018 junior bull of the year, Forde Abbey Solomon.

Making 3,000gns from G. Dart and Son, South Moulton, was Champson Enterprise which sold to J.P. Williams, Redruth.

 

The show champion, Colesden Alexander, by Forde Abbey Monk, from D. and S. Tutt, Bedford, made 2,500gns joining James Hawthorne, Bishops Lydeard.

 

Tilbrook Adventure from G. Hunter, Kimboulton, was the only polled bull in the sale and sold for 2,500gns to J. Stratton, Somerton.

Only yearling heifers were presented for the show, with the champion being Mere Park Queen, from L. Armishaw, Warminster, which sold for 750gns to R. Barkwell, Hatherleigh.

 

Other 2017-born maiden heifers from M. Elliott, Dulverton, sold to 1,000gns for Dainty 52 and 980gns for Margot 105, both by Ashott Barton Merlin.

 

Averages

Bulls, £2,700; cows and calves, £840; in-calf heifers, £791; maiden heifers, £773; yearling heifers, £590; steers, £664.
