Farmer "very distressed" after finding missing sheep slaughtered and butchered

The animals were discovered between June 30 and July 24 by the landowner whose sheep had gone missing in Barford St John, near Banbury.

PC Suzanne Goodman, from Thames Valley Police, described the discoveries as "very distressing" for the farmer.

She said: “I am keen to speak to anyone who has witnessed anything suspicious in the area around the airfield at Barford St John, day or night, during this period.

“Also, I would like to hear from anyone who has been offered cheap lamb for sale. I would advise anyone to report this to the police and not buy or eat such meat as there could be a health risk.”

It is believed the animals were slaughtered and skilfully butchered before their meat was removed and their carcasses left behind.

  • If you witnessed the offence or any suspicious behaviour in this area around this time, please call Thames Valley Police on 101, quoting incident reference 43170208462.

The incident follows a similar attack in February 2017 when a sheep was slaughtered and butchered in Lancashire.
