Farmer's daughter's letter to Tesco causes social media storm - reaching 1.4m people

In the advert, a young girl arrives home from school and tells her father: “Daddy, I don’t want to eat animals anymore.”

After seeing the advert and the negative reaction it had garnered from across the industry - the NFU accused the retailer of ’demonising’ red meat - the youngster wrote to Farmers Guardian and suggested the ’little girl in the advert visit a farm and learn about all the welfare standards and nutritional benefits of eating British meat.

"My daddy works very hard and cares a lot about his cows - your advert should be supporting British farming," she wrote.

The note, shared on FG’s Facebook page, reached 1.4 million people and was shared more than 11,000 times.

It attracted more than 1,000 comments in support.

Susan Egner wrote: "What a lovely note.

"You should be starring in an advert to promote farming, and British produce, and you are obviously aware of the hard work and welfare standards needed to breed healthy stock."

Sandra Burrows called for Tesco bosses to go work on a farm and experience it for themselves.

"What a brilliant letter by such a young lady.

"All farmers work so so hard and love all their animals and take great care of them they are part of their family, my son and daughter in law are farmers and bringing up two young children working 24/7 and love their animals," she wrote.
