A police investigation has been launched after a barn was set on fire and bales were slashed at a farm in Derbyshire.

Farmers warned by police as barn set on fire and bales slashed #RuralCrime

The incidents happened overnight between August 6 and 7 on a farm near Middleton-by-Youlgrave.

 

Police officers are investigating ‘several leads’ and are urging anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area to come forward.

 

PC Andy Shaw said: “We’re investigating a suspected arson attack and would like to talk to anyone who was in the area between 11pm and midnight.

 

“We believe the offender, or offenders, left via the A5012 towards Middleton-by-Youlgrave.

“If anyone was walking down the road or attended the nearby festival and witnessed something suspicious – please get in contact.

 

“We are still trying to ascertain whether the attack is random or targeted. For any farmers in the area, please be vigilant over the next 24-48 hours.”

The incidents follow a suspected arson attack which did serious damage to Scotland’s only large scale pig abattoir last week.
