Highland heifers sell to 8,000gns at Oban

TRADE peaked at 8,000gns at the Highland Cattle Society’s show and sale at Oban on Monday.

Sale leader was the reserve champion from the pre-sale show, Anna of Eilean Mor from Karen and Michael MacGregor, Acharacle, Argyll

Highland heifers sell to 8,000gns at Oban

The three-year-old heifer by Ceannard 16 of Cnoc out of Sobhrach of Eilean Mor, it sold having run with Harris of Balemartine to Julia Carr, Richmond, North Yorkshire.

 

Next at 5,500gns was the overall champion, the three-year-old heifer, Heather 12 of Tordarroch by Moluag of Kilpatrick out of Heather 11 of Innisard and in-calf to Hamish of Knockendon. Consigned by John Cooper, Tordarroch Estates, Inverness, it sold to Falko Steinberg, Leisterforde, Germany.

 

Ms Carr then paid 5,000gns for the reserve champion two-year-old heifer, Sine Dhubh of Craigowmill by Seumus Dubh from Ken and Eva Brown, Kinross.

Making 4,000gns was June 21 of Hyndford, a three-year-old heifer by Alexander of Hyndford and in-calf to Alasdair 4 of Douglas from Alan Prentice, Lanark. It was knocked down to Philip Stokoe, Aboyne.

 

Yearling heifers topped at 2,500gns for Carlin 5 of Culfoich, a daughter of this year’s Royal Highland Show champion, Jacob 2 of Benmore from Gordon McConachie, Grantown-on-Spey. The buyer was A. Hyslop and Son, Biggar.

 

The reserve heifer calf champion, Lady Jane Stuart 2 of Cladich from Queenie Strickland, Dalmally, led the section selling for 2,000gns to Aikenshill Farm, Abeerdeenshire.

 

The Cladich fold also topped the bull calves at 1,000gns for the first prize winner, a January 2019-born son of Whitelaw of Killochries which sold to Maureen MacArthur and John Ashton, Strathpeffer.

 

The dispersal of Carline Cuthbertson’s Jedderfield fold, Peebles peaked at 1,800ngs for Kate 9 of Jedderfield, a four-year-old cow which sold with a calf at foot to Mrs Strickland, Dalmally.
