IN PICTURES: Land Rover reveals new Defender 4x4 offering

Making its debut at this week’s Frankfurt Motor Show, Land Rover revealed its highly anticipated latest-generation Defender 4x4.

First off the production line will be the long wheelbase Defender 110 model, available to order now and starting from £45,240 on the road. From launch, diesel power comes from a choice of 200 or 240hp, four-cylinder motors, while petrol fans are treated to a 300hp four-cylinder, or an in-line six-cylinder petrol hybrid churning out 400hp. In addition, a plug-in hybrid will also be available.

Though some styling cues from the previous generation Defender are recognisable, the latest incarnation is a far cry from the vehicle that could be fixed with a lump hammer and a rivet gun.

Packed with technology, it features no less than 85 individual ECUs managing everything from its state of the art infotainment system and heads up driver display, to a plethora of navigation sensors and its comprehensive list of driver assist features. But can it pull a cattle trailer?
