New Holland CR combines

New Holland CR combines

Showcasing its latest CR combines, New Holland has made several updates to its twin-rotor models.

As well as benefitting from styling updates, the manufacturer’s wide-body CR combines have had several updates under the skin including a power hike to pump its 16-litre FPT engine up to 700hp.

To accommodate more straw and boost output, the core of its TwinPitch Plus threshing rotors have been reduced by 38mm (1.5in) in size, with their overall 559mm (22in) diameter being maintained by fitting longer rasp bars.

Previous residue management issues have also been addressed, says the firm. Jet engine-like shrouds boost chaff spreading capability via the use of high volumes of airflow.

A faster rotating straw chopping is also featured to improve consistency, along with V-shaped paddles and beefed up spreading motors, which the firm says provides effective spreading up to the machine’s maximum 13.7m (45ft) header width.

All six updated CR combine models are available now.

Despite changing little mechanically, John Deere’s largest S Series combines feature some pretty substantial upgrades.

On top of its previous automated features, the firm has thrown a whole host of sensors at the combine, which allow it to make better informed adjustments to the combine.

In terms of sensing, weigh cells are now fitted to the grain tank to allow more accurate calibration of mass flow and moisture meters.

For automation, a new Auto Maintain system allows adjustment of concave gap and rotor speed according to information from cameras in the clean grain and sampling elevators.

Improvements have also been made in the cab, with the integration of Deere’s latest generation CommandArm layout and similar style joystick as found on its 6230R and 6250R tractors.

The firm’s new 250mm (10in) 4600 touch screen is also featured.

A new draper header is also available, which features beefed up drivelines and a 460mm (18in) auger to cope with our greener crops here in the UK.
