HARRISON and Hetherington hosted their annual May day young handlers and spring lamb show and sale at Carlisle.

Show judge Andrew Graham of D. Paisley Butchers, Wigton, awarded the championship rosette to Emily Hunter, Annan, who was showing a Texel cross lamb weighing 42kg.

Mr Graham later backed his decision and took home the lamb for 294p/kg (£123.50/head).

The reserve champion went to Jack Richardson, Mealsgate, with a Texel cross lamb, weighing 39kg. The judge also took this lot home, paying 264p/kg (£103/head).

There was also a special class for spring-born lambs which was won by a pair of Texel crosses from Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk. They later sold for £123.50 to D. Paisley Butchers.

Auctioneers: Harrison and Hetherington.
