Featuring three models from 82 to 100hp, Massey Ferguson has announced the introduction of its new 4700 M tractor series.
Taking over from the current 4700 Global Series, the manufacturer says the new 4700 M Series offers modern technology in a package that is straight forward to operate and dependable, following in the footsteps of the 5700 M, launched at last year’s Agritechnica Show, with the new ‘M’ designation standing for ‘medium specification’. This is aimed to set these ranges apart from the higher specification ‘S’ models, ranging from the 5700 S Series to the 8700 S Series.
All new models are powered by the latest Agco Power Stage 5, three-cylinder, 3.3-litre engines delivering powers of 82hp, 92hp and 100hp. The new 100hp 4710 M, now heads the range, while the previous 75hp model is no longer available. Available as an option on all four-wheel drive models in the range is the manufacturer’s new Dyna-2 transmission with Powershuttle and Speedmatching.
This two-speed powershift provides 24 forward by 24 reverse speeds from six gears in two ranges, which provides a choice of eleven speeds in the main working range, according to the manufacturer.
A Hi-Low module provides two powershift speeds, which are selected using a small thumb operated button on the side of the gear knob, underneath which is a declutch button. Powershift speeds can also be changed with a rocker switch, mounted on the right-hand console.
Added to the new transmissions is a function called Speedmatching, which automatically selects the correct powershift ratio for the speed, when gears are changed. It too is activated by a switch on the right-hand console. The transmission provides a top speed of 40kph at 1,850rpm.
Standard fitment is the manufacturer’s 12 by 12 gearbox. The company says it is specifically designed for these mid-range tractors and can be equipped with either a mechanical or Powershuttle, to ease operations.
As a further option, a brake to neutral function is available for both the Dyna-2 transmission and the 12 by 12 Powershuttle. Activated by a switch on the console, it simultaneously operates the clutch when the brake pedal is depressed. The manufacturer says this helps loader work, enabling operators to use just one pedal to brake and declutch as the same time.
The new range adopts the Massey Ferguson family style, which introduces the new wave-shaped grille, incorporating a lightbar at the top. In addition, new wheel rims, front and rear, have been added to improve durability and enable the fitment of a wider range of tyre sizes. A new dashboard, showing the tractor’s status has been added, while the operator area comes with the choice of cab or platform.
