New transmission for New Holland’s T6 tractors

Adding to its transmission choices for its T6 range of tractors, New Holland has introduced a new 24 by 24 semi-powershift transmission.

New Holland’s new Dynamic Command transmission will complement the firm’s current 16 by 16 Electro Command powershift transmission with four shifts in four ranges, and its Auto Command continuously variable transmission.

 

It will be available on four out of the six T6 tractor models; T6.145, T6.155, T6.165 and T7.175. As with all other transmissions used in the T6 range, Dynamic Command will be built in-house by CNH Industrial.

 

At the heart of the three range, eight-step semi-powershift transmission is a dual clutch concept, similar to that used to shift ranges in the firm’s Auto Command transmission. Using two shafts, four odd numbered gears and a clutch are located on one shaft and four even numbered gears and a clutch on the other. Power is then modulated between the two clutches as the transmission switches from one gear to the next. All range shifting is also fully robotised with no mechanical shifting of gears.

 

The manufacturer says power losses are reduced via the use of a variable displacement lubrication pump, only supplying the volume of oil which is required.

Features of the transmission

Smart range shift: A speed matching function which will aim to put it in the correct gear when changing between ranges, skipping any overlapping gears.

 

Auto shift: The entry level automation feature which takes care of shifting gears based on an adjustable engine speed threshold. Depending on the task the operator can choose how much the engine speed can reduce before a ratio change is made.

 

IntelliShift: This sees a closed loop analysis of engine speed, input and output transmission shaft speed, load and forward speed, along with oil temperature all taken into account to make every gear shift as smooth as possible, says the manufacturer.

 

Ground speed management: This allows you to dial in a target working speed, leaving the engine and the transmission to decide what gear and engine rpm they should use for the best efficiency.

 

Transport power management: When above 22kph, the engine switches to a power curve with a different profile which concentrates more power at higher engine revs.

 

Kick down: Like an automatic car, kick down sees the transmission drop a gear when an aggressive throttle input is used, putting the engine speed at peak power.

 

Brake to clutch: This allows you to declutch by using only the brakes, ideal for stop start work.

 

Adjustable shuttle aggression: Does what it says on the tin.

Dynamic Command control

As for control, customers can choose from two versions of the firm’s SideWinder II armrest; one with electronic spool valve control and one with mechanical spools. For the mechanical option, the spool levers are mounted on the right hand fender.

 

Both control options come with New Holland’s CommandGrip multi-function lever which is also available in two versions to control the transmission; either fixed using buttons to change gear, or movable using the lever to change gear – the latter sees up-shifts made by pressing the lever forwards and vice versa. The same principal is also used to control the new ground speed management function.
