THE two-day sale of shearling rams at Hawes on behalf of the Swaledale Sheep Breeders Association ‘B’ district peaked at £38,000.
The sale leader was for Fawcett’s Cowboy from Graham Scarr, Garsdale. By the £14,000 Aygill Imperial and out of a Helbeck sired ewe, it sold to Trevor Blades and Bobby Blades, both Hawes, and John Bradley, Settle.
Next, making £34,000 was West Briscoe Rocker by a £1,500 Mark Ewbank ram consigned by David and Michael Allinson, Baldersdale.
The buyers were Craig Ridley, Haltcliffe, Richard Harker, Kendal, and Richard Hargreaves, Barley.
Two rams sold for £30,000 apiece. The first from Robert Wear’s Howe Green flock, Patterdale, was by the £86,000 Stonesdale ram and also sold to Messrs Harker and Hargreaves.
The other at this money was a son of a Stonesdale ram which had been male champion at Tan Hill show from Alan and Steven Coates’ Aygill. It sold to Roger and Helen Hird, Richmond, and Richard Hird, Barnard Castle, with the Coates retaining a share.
Mr Harker, sold a son of a homebred ram by £40,000 Cockbain from his Grayrigg Hall flock for £28,000 to Mark and Paul Ewbank, Pateley Bridge, and Robert Tennant, Hemplands.
The pen leader from Paul and Sue Hallam, High Birkwith, by the £55,000 Patrick Sowerby, sold for £28,000 selling to Mark Nelson, Clapham, Robin Booth, Smearsett, and Patrick Sowerby, Oakbank.
Taking a personal best of £21,000 was Johnny Cowperthwaite, Settle, when he sold Howith Barney 4, a son of a Barney Richardson tup to David Harker, Overthwaite and Weardale Estates, Co Durham.
