South Devons sell to 10,000gns at Exeter

THE spring sale of South Devons at Exeter saw a top price of 10,000gns with 21 bulls averaging £3,830, a rise of £200 on the year with a 92 per cent clearance rate.

The sale leader was the reserve male champion, Trewint Clyde, by North View Claudius, from Peter and Ashley Rowe, Menheniot. It sold to R. J. and C. J. Edwards’ Colcharton herd, Tavistock, Devon.


Judge, Richard Hartshorn, Telford, awarded the male championship to Kestle Emperor 7, an April 2017-born son of Welland Valley Hadrian 5 consigned by Roger Rundle, Newquay, which sold for 5,100gns to Shillingham Farm Partners, Saltash, Cornwall.

Top priced polled bull at 5,000gns was Z Stretchford Icarus 5, a March 2017-born bull by sire AI X Stretchford Icarus from J. Shinner and Sons, Buckfastleigh, which was knocked down to J. A. Hopkins, Dorset.

 

Next at 4,600gns for A. H. and E. M. Bartley, Cullompton, was Z Mutterton Kyoto 12 which sold to I. Kendle, Dereham, Norfolk. Other leading prices were 4,200gns for Trewint Churchill from the Rowes selling to K. V. and M. A. Plain, Tewkesbury, and 4,100gns for The Tully Partnership, Brixham, for Waddeton Claude 3 which went to R. C. Burrough and Sons, Axminster, Devon.

 

Heifers topped at 2,400gns for the Rowe’s Trewint Mary 87, selling with four others from the same home to S Clarke, Burton-on-Trent. Another from the Rowes sold for 2,300gns to L. Salt, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.


The female champion, AI Grove Buttercup 176 from W.H.D. Scott, Moreton in Marsh, sold to West Prawle Farm, Kingsbridge, for 2,200gns.

 

Averages: 21 bulls, £3,830; 12 heifers, £1,943.
