Sparkling new products for Ifor Williams' diamond anniversary
Celebrating 60 years of trailer production Ifor Williams Trailers has opened a new factory and released new products.
Coinciding with 60 years of production, the iconic trailer manufacturer, Ifor Williams Trailers has opened a new production facility in its homeland of North Wales.
Its new 6000sq.m production facility started manufacturing in November last year, and recently opened by Ken Skates, the Welsh Government’s cabinet secretary for the economy and transport.
The new facility is responsible for the production of livestock trailers, with everything from the company’s diddy P6e through to the tri-axle TA510. In total more than 750,000 trailers have rolled off the firm’s various production sites in the past six decades.
At a cost of £5 million the new site features the latest in metal fabrication and production line technology, enabling the company to take on more orders at a reduced lead time, it says. With an eye to the future the company hopes the investment will help in negating any risk from Brexit and increase exports in the coming years.
In addition to the factory opening the event also played host to a number of new product launches.

HBX and HBE horse boxes
The event featured the launch of two new horse box ranges. With futuristic styling, the trailer departs from IWT’s previous HB ranges, in that it features an all aluminium body. The two new ranges, the HBX and HBE feature the firm’s redesigned rear door, which can function as a ramp or a swing out door, ideal for loading pallets. Additional features aimed at horse comfort are padded breast bars and padded partitions and a host of tack locker and front ramp options.
SA4 stock trailer
Following European and small holder demand, IWT has re-introduced the single axle, single beast trailer. With a gross weight of 1,400kg, the trailer measures 4ft (1220mm) wide by 6ft (1830mm) tall by 8ft (2440mm) long, meaning those without a B+E license can legally tow this trailer.
It is the first time this type of trailer has been manufactured by the company since it ceased production of this style in the 1980’s. The design is reminiscent of the second ever trailer produced by Ifor Williams in his smithy in 1958, which has been fully restored.
The restoration has returned the trailer to its original condition and has been so meticulously done even the nuts and bolts are imperial gauge. It would have cost about £90 in 1958, just a shade over £2,000 in today’s money. It was hitched to an immaculate Series 1 Land Rover.
Log Splitter
For the first time in its history IWT are venturing into the world of trailed equipment. Kicking of this new product portfolio is a log splitter, equipped with a 5.5hp four-stroke Honda engine. The machine, which can be towed behind a quadbike, car or pick up is fully galvanised and features a ram capable of exerting 25 tonnes of pressure.
A nifty feature is its ability to work in horizontal or vertical positions. Other user-friendly features are a log stripper, which makes it easier to remove wet and twisted logs off the splitting wedge and a hands-free return enabling faster loading of the machine. Logs up to 600mm long can be split.
Single Axle Tipper
Designed with small holders and UTV users in mind, the new single axle tipper features a skip back and manual pump to facilitate tipping. The braked trailer can carry up to 1,100kg of cargo and has the option of including mesh sides and tail board to carry loose and bulky items like wood chip or manure, for example. The profile of the trailer is similar to the company’s P6e trailer, enabling accessories to be changed between the two.
