Spring-like conditions to continue throughout the weekend

News

A taste of spring is on the way for much of the UK this weekend but conditions are expected to turn more unsettled going into next week.

The UK could see a return to more wintry conditions, with heavy rain and gales possible at the beginning of the week.

Farmers Weather forecaster Garry Nicholson said: "In the short term, things are fairly quiet this weekend, with patchy rain in the west and north, but many places will be dry with some sunshine, and highs of 9 to 13 DegC.

"By Monday, a plume of very mild air originating from the tropical mid-Atlantic will push temperatures toward 14 or 15 DegC, or locally warmer in the east. It stays mild into Tuesday, then it will become cooler from the north as the week goes on, dropping back to around 6 to 10 DegC.

"Rain is likely to develop for most areas next week, but the wettest conditions will affect the north-west. It will be often windy, and widespread gales may develop during midweek, with a risk of severe gales in the north."

By the end of the week, it may be cold enough for snow showers in the north, said Mr Nicholson, with some sharp frosts likely.

However, colder weather should be short lived, as current indications favour milder temperatures toward the end of February.
