A worker has died in a heather burning incident.

Worker dies in heather burning incident

A Police Scotland spokesperson said around 4.20pm on Monday March 22 a 54-year old man was working in the Lammermuir Hills, Scottish Borders when his clothing caught fire.

 

“Emergency services attended and he was taken by air ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he died on Tuesday March 23," the spokesperson said.

“His family are aware and a report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and HSE has been informed.

 

"A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."

A Health and Safety Executive spokesperson said: "Controlled burning is a specialist task.

 

"Conditions can change rapidly.

 

"The work should be closely managed with well-practiced and effective emergency arrangements.


"Make sure that intended fires are fully planned and controlled by a competent team."
