His winning two-crop ewe by Durran Rover and out of a Biggins-bred ewe was previously overall sheep champion at Latheron and Caithness County shows, where it was also reserve ‘champion of champions’.

It was selected as the winner at Black Isle by judge Gary Mitchell, vice-president of NFU Scotland, in preference to the beef cattle, horse and fur and feather champions.

Runners-up for the ‘champion of champions’ award were Blair Duffton, Huntly, and Rebecca Stuart, Insch, who were continuing their run of successes at recent shows with their beef cattle champion, the 20-month-old Limousin cross heifer, Shaniqua, which has chalked up three inter-breed championships and two reserves over the past month.

Successes by this Lodge Hamlet daughter include ‘champion of champions’ at Banchory, reserve inter-breed at New Deer and Echt, inter-breed at Fettercairn, second at the Royal Highland and reserve cross cattle champion at Angus.

The pair also won the coveted trophies for the best pair and best three beef animals at Black Isle, with the reserve pair coming from Anne Macpherson, Blackford, Croy, with Simmentals and the top trio, also Simmentals, from Iain Green, Corskie, Garmouth.

Reserve for the inter-breed sheep championship was the Charolais leader from brothers, Gregor and Bruce Ingram, Logie Durno, Inverurie, with their ewe, Loanhead Riverdance, by Crogham Hannibal, which was breed champion at the Royal Highland and one of the winning inter-breed pair at the Royal Welsh.
