Angus based precision farming solutions company SoilEssentials has announced a new partnership with one of the largest farming businesses in the UK.
The 22,500 acre Elveden Estate in Suffolk has 10,000 acres of farmed land and farms another 9,000 acres on three other sites under separate agreements.
It is a major producer of potatoes and other root crops.
SoilEssentials and Elveden are to working together using the former’s Tuberzone and Tuberzone CropCast technologies to better manage potato crops for optimum size distribution and crop value.
SoilEssentials has developed these products over five years with the help of the James Hutton Institute and through the Innovate UK funded Tuberzone.
Elveden, which is the largest ring-fenced arable farm in lowland Britain, is managed with a keen eye on environmental and sustainable targets.
The estate was transformed for agricultural use in 1927 by Rupert Guinness, the great-great- grandson of the founder of the Guinness brewery.
The field layout he implemented is still virtually identical today, with large fields of up to 100 acres in size that are well-suited to modern machinery.
