A new centre record of £6,600 was set at Barnard Castle’s sale of show potential cattle.
The record breaker was the champion, Limited Edition, a Limousin heifer consigned by R. Hutchinson and Son, Bowes, sold to the judge, Nigel Leighton, Goole.
The reserve championship went to J.W. Dent and Sons, Lartington, with the second prize winning Limousin heifer which
went on to make £3,000 to Messrs Marsh, Dover. Messrs Dent also had the third prize Limousin heifer which sold for £2,800 and another which made £2,900, along with the top priced steer, a Limousin, which sold for £1,620.
They also took the un-haltered cattle championship, which was judged by David Anderson, Maryport, with an 11-month-old Limousin steer. It sold for £1,380 to R. Alder, Ponteland. The reserve championship went to a British Blonde steer from R.W. Dalton, Hunderwaite, which sold to the judge for £1,250.
