Salers bull breaks UK breed record at Castle Douglas

The Farmers Guardian sponsored premier show and sale of Salers at Castle Douglas saw a new UK breed record achieved for the junior, male and overall champion.

The March 2015-born bull Cleuchhead Kingpin from R. and K. Livesey, Lilliesleaf, Melrose, sold for 11,000gns to A.J. and C. Colgen, Lowick.


The next top bid was 7,500gns for the March 2015-born bull Darnford Koby from David Watson, Durris, Banchory. The buyer was A. Robinson, Kendal.


The reserve junior and reserve overall champion was the 18-month-old bull Whitebog Kremlin from A. Mackenzie, Whitebog, Fortrose. It sold for 7,000gns to H. Limond, Drumore, Kirkmichael.


Pedigree heifers topped at 4,000gns for the January 2015-born in-calf heifer Cuil Kylie from Colin McClymont, Newton Stewart. The buyer was F.C. Robinson, Highfields.


The female champion, Cumbrian Cammella, a May 2014-born pedigree in-calf heifer from Farmstock Genetics, Selkirk, sold for 2,500gns to W.N. and I. Douglas, Catslackburn, Yarrow.


Heading the commercial trade at £1,880/head was the champion pen of six Saler cross South Devon bulling heifers from A.R. Lee, Lumbylaw, Edingham. The buyer was Neil Barclay, Harestone.


The annual consignment of 52 Saler cross heifers from the Cuil herd from Mr McClymont topped at £1,600 and averaged at £1,393.46.
