Simmental bulls sell to 26,000gns and set new breed record average at Stirling

SIMMENTAL bulls sold to 26,000gns and averaged £6,482, up £1,433 on the year, setting a new breed average record. The clearance rate was 82 per cent.

The sale leader at 26,000gns, the second top price for a Simmental bull sold at auction in the UK, and also setting a new Welsh record, was June 2019-born Pistyll Kingsman 19 from G.A. and H.M. Francis, Abergorlech, Carmarthen.

 

By Woodhall Ferrari 14 out of Woodhall Evangeline, it sold to Richard McCulloch for his Overhill House herd, Armadale.

Next at 15,000gns was April 2019-born Backmuir Kraken 19 from Reece and Andrew Simmers, Keith.

The first son to be sold by Islavale Hamilton 16 and out of Starline Kreole 11, it went to A.R. Bulmer, Malton, North Yorkshire.

 

Selling for 11,500gns was Islavale Kacy 19 from W.S. Stronach, Keith, Banffshire. The March 2019-born son of Corskie Highlander, out of the Curaheen Bandit daughter Islavale Fantasia, sold to commercial producers, C. and G. Thomson, Midmar, Aberdeenshire.

Drumsleed Kingsman 19 consigned by G.W. Smith, Laurencekirk, was next at 11,000gns. The May 2019-born son of the 2019 Royal Highland champion, Drumsleed Hivy out of Drumsleed Farina 14 was knocked down to Emma Smith, Portlethen, Aberdeenshire.

 

Knockreagh Kilroy 19 made 10,000gns for Val and Conrad Fagen, Rostrevor, County Down. A May 2019-born bull by Dermotstown Delboy out of Omorga Dorcas, it sold to Wm Barnetson and Sons, Wick, Caithness.

 

Also selling for 10,000gns was Blackford Kirk 19 consigned by W.G. MacPherson, Croy, Inverness. The son of Blackford Galaxy, went to the Heathbrow Farming Partnership, Hitchin, Hertfordshire.

 

A.S. and Y.A. Leedham, Pickering, sold two sons of Grangewood Glenlivet 15 for 9,500gns and 8,000gns. Making their top price was Grangewood Kingdom 19, which sold to Terry Coghill, Birsay, Orkney, with Grangewood Kingpin going to V.C. Bailey, Brackley, Northamptonshire.

 

At 9,000gns was Auchorachan Kennedy 19, a son of Auchorachan Hercules from D. and R. Durno and Sons, Glenlivet, which sold to Jim and Patricia Goldie, Dumfriesshire.

 

A small entry of females topped at 2,400gns for the 2013-born Denizes Beauty, an Ashland Tornado daughter from M.A. Barlow, Leyland, which sold with a December 2020 born bull calf, Denizes Litman 20 by Denizes Impeccable 17, to K. and A. Graham, Doune.

 

 

Averages – 64 bulls, £6,482 (+£1,432 on 2020).
