SIMMENTAL bulls peaked at 15,000gns with seven bulls selling for five figures to average of £5,178 down £1,009 on the year with a 65 per cent clearance rate.
Speaking at Stirling, breed society chief executive, Neil Shand, said “It was a better than anticipated trade given the current state of the beef industry, for what was not a vintage show of bulls. Quality bulls sold well and there was a mix of both pedigree and commercial buyers.”
The highlight of a good day’s trade for Stewart Stronach, Keith, was leading the prices at 15,000gns with the reserve junior champion, Islavale Jackpot 18. The April 2018-born bull is the first to be offered for sale by the new herd sire, Corskie Highlander and is out of Islavale Farrah, a Curaheen Bandit daughter. The buyer was Messrs Quarm, Annick Estate, Irvine.
Mr Stronach also had the next joint top price of 14,000gns for Islavale Jerico 18, by Ranfurly Confederate C24 out of Islavale Wincey. The 18-month-old bull sold to Messrs Gummow, Newquay, Cornwall.
The junior and overall champion, Ranfurly Jackall J9 was another bull to sell for 14,000gns. Consigned by W.D. Hazelton, Dungannon, Northern Ireland, the May 2018-born son of Team Celtic out of Ranfurly Lady Diana, sold to the pre-sale show judge, Adrian Ivory, Strathisla Farms, Blairgowrie.
The other bull to sell for 14,000gns was Team Jackpot 18, a February 2018-born son of Team Celtic out of Team Misty from R.J. MacGregor, Perth. It went home with Barker and Borlase, Hertford.
It was Mr Stronach again who achieved the next top price of 12,000gns for the reserve intermediate champion, Islavale Jacob 18, another 18-month-old son of Ranfurly Confederate and out of Islavale Enid. It was knocked down to Logan and Co, Girvan, Ayrshire.
Saltire Judge, a March 2018-born bull by Woodhall Ferrari out of Saltaire Felicity sold for 10,500gns. Consigned by J. and G. Houliston, North Berwick, it was bought by Stewart Farms, Glasgow.
The final five figure bull at 10,000gns was Auchorachan Juggernaut 18, a May 2018-born bull by Curaheen Gunshot out of Auchorachan Autumn from D. and R. Durno and Sons, Ballindalloch. The buyer was Pitgaveny Farms, Elgin.
