There was strong demand for South Devons at the spring show and sale at Exeter which peaked at 9,600gns.
This was for the male champion, Z Eyton Trusty 4, a May 2016-born polled bull bred by T. Kent, Shrewsbury and offered for sale by Roden Livestock, Telford.
By Wenfork Trusty 5 and out of Z Eyton SAS Dolly 7, it has Breedplan performance figures in the top 1 per cent for growth and Quality Beef Index and was also awarded the Thornton Cup for combined points in performance and inspection. The buyers were R.C. Burroughs and Sons, Axminster.
Next at 5,700gns was Z East Farm Illistram 3 from P.G. H. Tully, Brixham which sold to D. Ashcroft, Selborne, Hampshire. This was followed at 4,400gns by Z Woodhayes Homer 26 consigned by B.G. and J.Z.A. Dart, Cullompton selling to P. Walker, Pewsey, Wiltshire.
Then making 4,300gns for M. R. and R. J. Rowe, Liskeard was Tregondale Persius 4 which was knocked down to G. Martyn and Sons, Boyton, Cornwall.
Female champion was the Dart’s two-year-old polled heifer, Z Woodhayes Daffodil 59 by the Australian sire, Torr Down Marvel 3 and out of AI Woodhayes Daffodil 40. It sold for 2,200gns, to T. J. Warhurst, Banbury.
Also making 2,200gns was Z Waddeton Saffron 19 from The Tully Partnership which sold to Laity Farms, Cornwall. Next highest female prices were 2,000gns twice for Z Beckaveans Indiana 12 and Z Beckaveans Trudie 14 from A. Brookes, Jacobstowe, both selling to R. J. Throssell, Week St Mary, Devon.
Reserve female champion from the Pluess herd was Trevoulter Dywanna 4 which sold with its twin to S. E. Bowden, Drewsteignton, Devon for 1,900gns/head.
