Southdown trade topped at 900gns at Worcester for a shearling ram from Jonathan Long’s Chaileybrook flock, Bishops Frome, Herefordshire.
This was a February 2018-born ET son of imported sire, Percheron, out of a daughter of the flock’s French-bred past stock ram, Sarkozy.
Having been champion at Tenbury, it was knocked down to Jessica Middleditch for her Wakes Hall flock, Norfolk.
Next in the males at 720gns was another Chaileybrook shearling, also by Percheron and out of a Golden Valley ewe, which had stood first in the pre-sale show. It sold to the day’s judge Steve Smith and his wife Helen for their Pen Parc flock, Welshpool.
At 520gns from Chaileybrook was a full ET brother to the sale leader, which was the pick of Megan Chilcott for the Huntspill flock, Somerset.
Females sold to 700gns for a shearling ewe from the Chichester-based Goodwood flock. By a Southern Cross sire and out of an East Dean dam, it sold to Keith Manning, Cissbury, West Sussex.
From the same home, making 600gns, was a ewe lamb by a Ridings ram out of a home-bred dam by Rene. It sold to Kathryn Wheeler, Herefordshire.
Next best at 520gns was the pre-sale champion and winner of the shearling ewe class from Chaileybrook. The Percheron-sired gimmer is out of a daughter of The Frog and was bought by the Smiths.
