OSR Volunteer Management Checklist

Oilseed rape volunteers have been highlighted as the prime cause of erucic acid contamination in double low rapeseed. They are highly competitive in subsequent cereal crops and can compromise plant populations, crop uniformity and productivity in OSR crops grown more than 10 years after the original seed was shed. They can also seriously increase slug problems in the rotation and provide a green bridge for pest and disease carry over.
