The livestock lines were bathed in sunshine on the second day of the Suffolk Show.

In the dairy inter-breed it was a home bred second calver from Peter Prior’s Designer Holsteins herd which took the top honours.

Designer Outside Bonheur, by Comestar Outside calved in April and is giving about 54 litres a day. She was bred at the farm in Ingatestone, Essex and runs with 40 other females.

The home bred cow was shown as a calf but has not been shown since. She will next appear at the South of England show and the Royal Norfolk.

In reserve was an Ayrshire fifth calver showed by John Smith of Wigboro Wick Ayrshires. Acton Navigator Heather Honey is a fifth calver sired by McCornick Navigatgor. She last calved in February and is giving 42 litres a day.

The cow runs with 20 other Ayrshires and 200 Holsteins at the farm in St Osyth, Essex.

In the beef rings Wissington Duchess owned by John and Jenny Rix clinched the inter-breed title.

The couple, who showed the cow and her six month old calf at foot, with the help of their daughter Sasha and stockman Pieter Hattingh, run 140 Charolais cattle at their farm in Wissington, near Nayland. They also run a herd of South Devons.

The seven year old cow is home bred and will next appear at the South of England, before going on to the Royal Norfolk and the national Charolais show at the NEC in Birmingham.

A 2009 born Simmental owned by the Dowley family from Leiston, Suffolk came in reserve.

Theberton Abagail is by Kilbride Farm Nery and was also shown with her six month old calf at foot.

Simon Temple and his Red Poll cow Bowland Yolande, who was shown with her calf at foot, won the overall breed championship. Suffolk incorporated the breed society’s inaugural national show.

In the sheep lines it was almost a clean sweep for local shepherdess Holly Lutkin, who not only took the supreme sheep championship with her South Down shearling ram, but also the pairs competition.

Norfolk YFC member Miss Lutkin, who runs a flock of 30 sheep which she started up four years ago, came fourth in the group of three competition.

The ram was bought two months ago from Susan Harmer of Lewes, East Sussex.

He will next appear at Lincoln.

Harry Middleditch’s Hampshire Down shearling ewe took reserve place. The sheep runs with 30 other Hampshire ewes, six Oxfords and some South Devon ewes.

Mr Middleditch was second in the pairs competition and first in the group of three.

A large black by Churchyard and Sons came first in the supreme pig competition. Breckles Jewel 123 by Glenariff Attempt out of Breckles Jewel 87 was born in September 2014 and runs with 20 other sows at the farm in Attleborough, Norfolk. She will next compete at Norfolk and the Great Yorkshire.

In reserve was a July Welsh gilt from David Finch, Benfleet, Essex. Siskin Theresa 34 by Owersby Imperial 439 will appear at local shows for the rest of the season.
