A brace of centre records were set at the Welsh national Texel sale at Welshpool, with a shearling ram and ram lamb setting new high marks for the breed.
First up and setting a new, breed centre male record at 10,000gns was the sale leader and first prize shearling, Caereinion Bonus, from Cefyn Pryce, Welshpool.
Sired by Granite Untouchable and out of a dam by the homebred Caereinion Number One, it with an index of 303, well within the top 1 per cent of the breed, to Jeff Aiken, flock manager for Procters Farm, Clitheroe, who was buying for the Procters and Tatham Hall flocks.
Next at 9,000gns and marking a new centre record for a ram lamb was the male and overall champion, Ynystoddeb Coron Aur, from Euros Jones and family, Llangadog.
This son of Plasucha All Star is out of a Plasucha ewe by Kelso Wiseman and sold to a consortium of three buyers in the form of pre-sale judge Robert Bennett, Plasucha, James Theyer, Clanfield and Jermey Theyer, Chegwood, with the Jones family also retaining a share in the lamb.
Next at 3,800gns was another ram lamb, Rhaeadr Crusader, from by Myfyr Evans, Denbigh.
By the 40,000gns Garngour Alabama and out of a dam by Clinterty Yuga Khan, Crusader is bred from the same family as the 125,000gns Rhaeadr Best of the Best and sold in a two-way split to Gordon Gray, Ettrick and Robert Cockburn, Knap.
Up next at 2,600gns was Charben Crazy Horse, a Hexel Beast From The East son out of a a Glenside Valhalla-sired dam. Consigned by Ben Vernon, Staffordshire, the ram lamb was knocked down to the Howells family for their Shadog flock, Carmarthenshire.
Leading the shearling gimmers at 1,800gns was the female and reserve overall champion, a daughter of the 70,000gns Teiglum Younggun from Ryan Bradley, Lancashire. Out of a dam by Tophill Union Jack, it sold to G. Scott, Denbighshire.
Following that at 1,400gns was the second prize gimmer and reserve female champion from the Stainton flock, belonging to Peter Woof, Cumbria. It sold with an index of 196 to Adrian Davies, Carmarthenshire.
