First at 6,500gns was Maerdy Ace, a shearling from Esmor Evans’ Maerdy flock, Mold.

A son of Seiont Unigolymn and out of a Peacehay-bred dam by Scolton Panther, it sold to Osain Rhys, breeder of its sire for the Seiont flock, Lon Pant, Gwynedd, with a half share retained by Mr Evans.

Second at 6,500gns was Rhaeadr Braveheart from Myfyr Evans, Denbigh. By 70,000gns Teigulm Younggun and out of an Auldhouseburn dam by 145,000gns Knap Vicious Sid, the ram lamb is a full brother to Mr Evans’ 125,000gns top seller at Lanark and sold to Alun Jones, Gwynfe, Carmarthenshire, for the Ynystoddeb flock.

The third at 6,500gns was another ram lamb, this time from Paul and Christine Tippetts, Shifnal. This was Wilodge Bravo, the reserve male champion from the pre-sale show.

By Baltier Thunderbird and out of a Beautry dam by Loosebeare Voldemort, it sold with an index of 426 to the Draper family, Shropshire, for the Claybury flock.

Then at 3,700gns was a shearling ram, from Cefyn Pryce, Welshpool. Caereinion All Star, the fourth prize winner by home-bred Caereinion Your The Boy, sold with an index of 475 to Davies Vrios, Penparc, Ceredigion.

Gimmers

Topping the shearling gimmers was the female and overall champion from Peter Woof’s Stainton flock, Kendal, at 4,000gns.

This was an embryo transfer-bred daughter of Knock Yankee out of a dam by Anglezarke Uno with an index of 361 which sold to D. and H. Alderson, Barrowford.

After that was a 2,700gns call for a gimmer from Robert Bennett’s Plasucha flock, Welshpool, which is a full sister to his 18,000gns sale topper at Lanark, being a daughter of Eden Valley Wiz Kid out of a dam by Garngour Upperclass. The buyer was J. Cubbitt, Ballymena.

Averages

59 shearling ewes, £726.10; 21 shearling rams, £1,302.50 (+£183.94); 101 ram lambs, £736.98 (+82.50).
