As the first day of summer has finally arrived, farmers are keen to act on the old cliche, ’make hay when the sun shines’.

 

But after an area of rain developed over southern and central England and Wales, Farmers Weather expert Dr Simon Keeling gave his advice to farmers country wide.

 

He said: "The forecast for Wednesday has been changing overnight, and the latest indications are now that rain will be affecting much of southwest England and Wales by the morning.

 

"This rain band then spreads into the Midlands during the course of the morning (although uncertainties remain in the timing), and the persists into the afternoon.

 

"An area of heavier, thundery rain is expected over eastern and southeast England through Thursday, affecting northeast England too."
