Turriff show wins Show Business 2013

Turriff Show, in Aberdeenshire, is the winner of this year’s Farmers Guardian Show Business competition.

The two-day show, which has been running for 148 years and attracts 30,000 people each year, received almost twice as many votes as its nearest competitor.


Competition judges, who included former Royal Highland Show chief executive Ray Jones and past Royal Welsh show president and Farmers Guardian columnist John Davies, were impressed with the show’s significant community support. Last year, it raised £100,000 from local businesses and organisations to build a new entrance and to weather-proof its new car parks.


Turriff show senior vice-president Bruce Ferguson said he was delighted it had won. Farmers Guardian editor Emma Penny said all the shows had shown real enthusiasm.

The prize includes a page preview and a show report in Farmers Guardian, as well as significant social media support. The show is on August 4 and 5 this year. The runner-up was Skelton show, Cumbria.


Other Show Business 2013 finalists were Burwarton show, Shropshire; Frome Agricultural and Cheese show, Somerset; Garstang show, Lancashire; Heathfield and District show, East Sussex; Nidderdale show in North Yorkshire; and Yetholm Shepherd show in the Scottish Borders.
