Owned by The Hon Gerald Turton, Thirsk, the herd’s sale leader was its fourth prize junior heifer, Clipper X1152 of Upsall, a March 2016-born, twin by Fortress of Upsall.

Having been reserve champion at last year’s Thirsk Calf Show and now in-calf to Firefox of Upsall it sold to Messrs Sloane and Hayton, Barrow-in-Furness.

Taking second top call of 6,000gns was Fortress of Upsall daughter, the third prize 2015-born senior heifer, Tessa X1106 of Upsall.

It sold in-calf to Grenadier of Upsall to Paul Coates, Armathwaite.

The Upsall herd also took the overall championship with the junior heifer, April 2016-born, Victoria X1170 of Upsall, also by Fortress and in-calf to Firefox. It was knocked down for 5,000gns to Leazes Farm in Wolsingham owned by Gerard Telintelo who is setting up a new herd.

Also at 5,000gns from the same home was the first prize senior heifer, Jilt X1097 of Upsall, a March 2015, daughter of Dingo of Upsall, in-calf to Grenadier which went to the same buyer.

The Upsall herd sold 15 females and two calves to average £3,539/head.

Overall reserve champion was Beautry Kooky Rose, a March, 2016 a daughter of Beautry Hagrid from Stuart and Gail Currie, Rathmell. Scanned in-calf to Poyntington Himself, it joined R.G. Thompson, Whitby for 4,500gns.

Charles and Sally Horrell Peterborough sold three heifers to A and C Farms, Rutland. First was Podehole Phantasy Jessamine, an October 2015-born daughter of Podehole Fandango which made 4,100gns. Next at 3,500gns was Podehole Gypsy Kiva, a February 2016-born heifer by Millerston Fine Ideal followed at 3,000gns by another Fine Ideal daughter, Podehole Rita Jaimee 2015 heifer.
