Visitors descend on Cornish Winter Fair

OVER 6,000 visitors headed to the Royal Cornwall Events Centre, Wadebridge, to attend the 2017 Cornish Winter Fair.

Entries totalled nearly 1,000 head, being up on the respective show held last year.

 

Farming minister and Cornish MP, George Eustice, was the event’s president this year and presented awards.

 

Sheep judge Stewart Cornelius, Davidstow, picked out a pair of Beltex from Gwen Renfree, Quethiock, to stand pair champions.

 

Miss K Rowe, Looe, was reserve with a pair of Lleyn cross Texels

 

The champion single lamb was Graham Tucker, Lewannick, with a Texel cross.

 

The cattle section was sorted by Colin Hutchings, Dulverton, who chose a Limousin cross steer named Chocolate from Nigel and Liz Bunkum, Merrymeet, Liskeard, as champion.

 

Taking reserve was Kian Frain, Launceston, with a Limousin cross British Blue heifer.

 

It was double success for the Bunkum’s who also secured the young beef title with the South Devon Bull Tregarrick Hamalton.

 

P. Richards, Hayle, was reserve with a Limousin Heifer.

 

Wadebridge Young Farmers’ Club topped the YFC points competition and St Kew WI came out on top among within the Women’s Institute classes.
