BULLS from Lewis R. Williams and Co’s Machreth herd led the trade at the Farmers Guardian supported Welsh Black Cattle Society sale at Dolgellau.
Their sale leader at 6,800gns was March 2018-born Machreth Berw, a son of Ynysfor William 6 which sold to O.M. Jenkins, Ynys Fergi, Ceredigion.
From the same home selling for 5,000gns was the pre-sale show champion bull, Machreth Bleddyn 6, another of the same age and by the same sire. It was knocked down to Jones Brothers, Bala.
Making the same money was Llwynsarn Cymro 4, a May 2018-born bull by Llwynsarn Cawr 9 consigned by H.W. Jones, Dolgellau which went home with G. Roberts, Corwen.
Two bulls sold for 4,400gns. The first was the reserve champion, Hafoesgob Banner, a January 2018-born bull from G. Jones, Hafod yr Esgob Isaf, Bala. The buyers were H.A., R.A. and S.W. Jones, Talymignedd Isaf, Gwynedd.
The other bull to sell at 4,400gns was third prize winner, July 2018-born Gwern Cynyddion TWM 44 consigned by the society president, R.J. Evans, Harlech which sold to G. Jones.
Making 4,000gns was Brysgaga Alun Wyn, a May 2018-born bull from R.A. Rees, Aberystwyth. It sold to A.L. Williams, Gwarcwn Isaf, Powys.
Females sold to 2,400gns for Graig Goch Bet 65, a September 2017-born daughter of Graig Goch Berwyn 57 from Emyr and Gerwyn Jones, Llanrwst. It sold to W.S. Layton, Hereford who also paid 2,20ogns for the reserve champion maiden heifer, July 2018-born Mynach Gwenfair 65 from A. and R.C. Williams, Pentre, Bala.
The champion maiden heifer, May 2018-born Penwernhir Munud 13 consigned by D.E. Rowbottom, Penwernhir, Ceredigion sold for 2,000gns to J.J. and M.M. Lewis, Trefaes Uchaf, Ceredigion.
